Lee Ulch, 95

Lee Ulch, 95, of Gladbrook, IA passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Iowa River Hospice Home, in Marshalltown. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015, at the Gladbrook Memorial Building in Gladbrook. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a charity to be determined at a later time. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. Lee Forrest Ulch was born February 26, 1920, on a farm near Solon, IA to Frank and Lottie (DeVault) Ulch. He graduated from Nichols High School in 1938. His farming career was interrupted when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Grapple ARS-7. On April 12, 1950 he married Louise Polman and they moved to International Falls, Minnesota, where they owned and operated the Crystal Beach Resort on Rainy Lake for 17 years. They then moved to Gladbrook and Lee became employed at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. He retired in 1985. Lee was a member of the Gladbrook Legion Post 127, Smokey Ridge Muzzleloading Association, the N.R.A, and also the Iowa Black Powder Federation. He was active in shooting sports. Lee is survived by his wife, Louise, a son Jeffrey (Terri), daughters Libbie (life partner, Billy) and Teresa (Ronald), seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and six great step grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three half-brothers. Lee donated his body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology for medical research.
