Elmer F. Mussig, 101, of Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2015 at Gladbrook United Methodist Church. Visitation was 5:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 Masonic Service, Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Gladbrook United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Gethmann Cemetery in Gladbrook. Memorials may be directed to the Gladbrook United Methodist Church memorial fund. The Gladbrook Chapel of Anderson Funeral Homes has been entrusted with these arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com. Elmer Frank Mussig was born March 13, 1914, at the family home west of Gladbrook, to Frank and Mary (Flamme) Mussig. He attended school at Badger Hill #3 in Spring Creek Township through the 8th grade. After the Badger Hill School burned down, school was held in his parents’ house while a new school was being built, at which time Elmer started school at the age of four. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1931. Elmer was united in marriage to Ruth Wendel in Story City, IA in 1937. Ruth’s father, who was a minister, performed the ceremony. Elmer farmed his entire life with his father, brother, son and grandson. Elmer was a member of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church and was one of the people responsible for getting the church built at its present location on Highway 96. He sang in the church choir for many years and sang solos at many occasions. Elmer was a member of Olivet Lodge No. 436 since 1935. Elmer is survived by a son, Marshall (Diane) Mussig of Gladbrook, and daughter, Marge (Frank) Kohn of Twin Lakes, IA; three grandchildren, Cindy (Jeff) Linder of Cedar Rapids, IA, Chad (Karen) Mussig of Gladbrook and Quentin (Allison) Mussig of Cedar Falls, IA; and 10 great-grandchildren, Reece and Reagan Linder, Madeline, Thomas, Samuel, Henry, Anna and Catherine Mussig, and Vivian and Leon Mussig. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, brother Eldon, and son-in-law Ernie Mori.
