Born on January 17, 1933, in Garwin, Danny was the son of Jake and Emma (Dvorak) Starits. He attended country school and graduated from the Garwin High School in 1951. On September 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joyce Kroeger, at the Salem Church in Lincoln, Iowa. Danny farmed and then started Starits Plumbing and Heating in Garwin where he remained active right up to recent years. Danny loved life and was a “party looking for a place to happen.” He loved dancing with his lovely bride, fishing (as his father said, “Your days are numbered, but fishing days don’t count”), playing Santa for church and the town, helping others, gardening, and playing cards. He was active in the Garwin Christian Church, the Garwin Volunteer Fire Dept. and ambulance crew, was a former Lion’s Club member, and served as the Garwin town cop for some years. Most of all, he treasured his family. Left to cherish Danny’s memory is Joyce, his loving wife of 62 years. His children: Pat Albert of Toledo, Joni (Steve) Bruner of Marshalltown, Kendall (Becky) Starits of Marshalltown, David (Sara) Starits of Lone Oak, TX, and Jeff (Denise) Starits of Marshalltown; ten grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); great-great-grandchildren and many friends and other family members. In death, Danny rejoined his son, Scott, who passed away in 1954; his granddaughter, Alyx Lynn Starits in 1996; son-in-law Don Albert; his parents; and sisters, Marcella Thomas and Maxine Clough.
