Alan Lage

Alan Lage, beloved father, companion and loyal friend to so many, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015. Alan was born March 28, 1945 to Melissa (Stauffer) and Leon Lage in Marshalltown. Leon was killed in battle in France the day after Alan was born. Melissa later married a Navy man, John Frasher. Alan and his siblings lived in various locations in the United States, including Guam during his formative years. Alan eventually decided to move back to the Lage family farm near Gladbrook… and his dear “Gramps”. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1963 and the University of Iowa in 1967, where he was a proud Delta Chi. Prior to retirement, Alan traveled the US for Marketing Systems. Definitely unique, Alan was a kind soul and very generous man. He would do anything he could for you, and often did. A former musician, Alan was a great lover of music. He instilled this passion in his son and others, and rarely missed John’s performances. Always looking toward the spiritual path to enlightenment, he was optimistic to the end. Survivors include his son John and his partner of 34 years, Susan Larsen of Oxford. A memorial event will be at a later date. Till then, enjoy a sunset and forgo eating meat for a day in honor of this very special guy. Arrangements were with Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service.
