Roy Kvidera, 92

Roy Kvidera, 92, of Gladbrook passed away Tuesday Morning October 14, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown with his loving family by his side. A public visitation will be held on Friday October 17, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Family will be holding private funeral services. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Roy and his family. Phone 641-844-1234. Roy James Kvidera was born at home in Toledo, Iowa; he was the son of James C. and Caroline (Meyer) Kvidera. He attended school in the Toledo School District graduating with the class of 1939. Roy served our country honorably in the United States Army 87th Golden Acorn Division, from June 1942, to November of 1945. Roy was in four major battles in Northern France, The Ardennes, Rhindland and Central Germany, his campaign ribbons are decorated with three Battle Stars. On September 19, 1948 Roy was united in marriage to Betty Jean Taylor in the parsonage of the United Methodist Church in Toledo. Roy owned a restaurant in Toledo for a short time called Mac’s Café. They started farming near Gladbrook, Roy also worked for Fisher Governor and was a state of Iowa restaurant inspector. They remained on the farm until 2002 when moved to Gladbrook. Roy had been a former member of the Methodist Church in Toledo and Gladbrook, Toledo American Legion and Masonic Lodge. Roy had a great love for his family, enjoyed wood working and could make anything out of wood. He also loved bird watching, and driving new cars. Roy will be remembered for his story telling, joking around. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Betty of Gladbrook. Children: Martin Kvidera of St Paul, Minnesota, Paula (Bob) Goecke of Marshalltown and Michael (Jan) Kvidera of Marshalltown and his grandchildren, Lynn Goecke of Ankeny and Craig Goecke of St. Center. His brother-inlaw Lester Taylor and his children Henk Taylor and Becca Wiseman In death Roy rejoins his parents, James and Caroline and a brother in infancy, Warren Kvidera.
