Maxine Johannsen, 95

Maxine Johannsen, 95, of Conrad, Iowa, passed away on September 13, 2014, at Pueblo Norte Senior Living in Scottsdale, Arizona, with her family by her side. A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Peace United Church in Gladbrook, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Badger Hill Cemetery in rural Gladbrook. Memorials may be directed to Peace United Church of Christ, or Hospice of the Valley, 16117 North 76th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260-1793. Maxine was born March 2, 1919, in Marshalltown to Henry and Helen (Vokoun) Johnson. She grew up in Marshalltown and graduated from Marshalltown High School. Maxine was married to Carlton Hatcher, Jr., they later divorced. She married Lyle Johannsen in 1953 and they moved to the Johannsen family farm in Gladbrook, Iowa. She helped with the farming and raised her family. Maxine was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ. She enjoyed fishing trips to Lake of the Woods with her husband and friends. She loved bowling, golfing, and bridge games. In 1983 she and Lyle moved to Conrad, to enjoy their retirement years with their winters spent in Arizona, and then Mission, TX. Maxine will be missed by her three children, Vicki Burkhardt (Sam LaRosa), of Alexandria VA, Paul (Darlene) Hatcher, of Mission TX, and Julie Johannsen (Brent Jensen) of Scottsdale, AZ. Seven grandchildren, Kristi Burkhardt, Ignatius Burkhardt, Heidi Burkhardt, Elizabeth (Brett) Miller, Deborah (Tim) Friday, Trevor Jensen, and Henry Jensen, two great grandchildren, Justin (Anna) Miller, and Hannah Miller, one sister, Wilma Perry, of Alexandria, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, her parents, brother Henry Johnson, and grandson, Patrick Burkhardt.
