Ruth Elaine Mentel Parsons, 81, of Gladbrook, Iowa passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Gladbrook. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the Family. Ruth was born September 7, 1931 in Hawkeye, Iowa; she was the daughter of Howard and Antoinette (Bokenheir) Amos. She attended high school in Hawkeye, Iowa graduating with the class of 1949. On November 11, 1951, she was united in marriage to Henry Mentel Sr. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa; they were married for 30 years before his passing. Later she would marry again to C.D. Parsons. Ruth worked for 45 years as a school bus driver before she retired. Ruth was a member of the AMVETS as well as the United Methodist Church in Gladbrook. She loved cooking, catering for weddings and special events, flower gardening and crocheting but above all else loved her family and friends. She will be remembered for her caring of others, sense of humor and her great smile and positive outlook, Ruth was known by everyone. Ruth is survived by her children Dennise (James) Adams of Shreveport, Louisiana, DeLaine (Douglas) Votruba of Keller Texas, Henry Mentel Jr of Gladbrook, Teresa (Larry) Kingrey of Navarre, Florida, grandchildren; Nicole and Jacqueline Adams, Joshua(Jessica) Votruba, Jamie Riviera, Kyle Aneweer, Shon Kingrey and Tracy Baumgartner and several great-grandchildren, Ruth’s siblings; Ronald Amos, Russell(Maureen) Amos and Roberta(Howard) Kimbrell. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Antoinette, and her husbands; Henry and C.D. and grandson, Justin Votruba.
