Obituary-Phyllis M. Pecenka, 89

Phyllis M. Pecenka, 89, of Traer, died of natural causes at the Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer on Thursday, July 19, 2012. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer. The Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Overton Funeral Home in Traer. Burial was in the Buckingham Cemetery, Traer. A memorial is being established. Condolences may be left at:www.overtonservice.com. Phyllis Maxine Pecenka was born November 11, 1922 on the home farm southwest of Traer, IA, daughter of William and Maggie (Drinovsky) Kostlan. She received her education at Perry # 5 (Stormy Point) country school and graduated from Traer High School in 1940. On October 19, 1943 she was united in marriage to Gaylord Pecenka at the Congregational Church in Traer and they later divorced. Phyllis made her home all her life in Traer.  For 39 years she enjoyed working in the dietary department at Sunrise Hill Care Center retiring in October of 2011.   She was a member of the Ripley United Church of Christ and the ZCBJ Lodge. Phyllis enjoyed gardening, fishing and baking for her family.  Her cookies were the best and there were always plenty in her freezer.  She also enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Gregory in 1946 and Kim in 2010, a grandson Dustin Palmer in 2005 and a sister Bethel McCrary. She is survived by one son Kevin (Vicki) Pecenka of Traer, and one daughter Janice Palmer of Plattsmouth, NE, six grandchildren, Courtney (Kari) Pecenka, Michelle (Jeff) Coghlan, Danielle Palmer, Michael Pecenka, Christina Davis and Emily Pecenka, five great-grandchildren Caleb and Elise Coghlan, Hailey and Cameron Davis and Charlie Smith.
