Wilbur W. Sealman

WILBUR W. SEALMAN, 87, of Cherokee, Iowa passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 in the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 24th, at 2 p.m. at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler officiated. Cremation took place following the service and burial will be in the Grundy Center Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and continued on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Wilbur was born on April 26, 1925 in Grundy Center, Iowa to John & Gertrude (Walters) Sealman. He attended elementary school and high school in Grundy Center. He entered the U.S. Army in September of 1943 and served in the European Theater in France, Holland, Germany, Austria and Belgium; was wounded there in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home, he was employed at Heine Implement in Grundy Center and later at Caswell Manufacturing in Cherokee for many years until his retirement.

Wilbur was married to Katie Harriett Dirks on February 4, 1944 and they had three children Marylian, Dennis and James. They were divorced in 1959 and he then was married to June Yohoe in 1960 and had two children Harlan and Michael. They were later divorced. Wilbur was an active member of L.A. Wescott #2253 of the V.F.W. and had served as commander five times and was also a member of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Walter and Henry Sealman and a step-daughter Patty.

He is survived by his five children: Marylian Casey of Spring Valley, Minn.; Dennis Sealman of Grundy Center, Iowa; James Sealman of Reinbeck, Iowa; Harlan Sealman of Cherokee, Iowa; Michael Sealman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren: Scott, Michael, Denise, Nathan, Melissa, Melanie and Matthew; two step-grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Raymond Sealman of Lakewood, Colo.; Harold Sealman of Wellsburg, Iowa; Paul Sealman of Grundy Center, Iowa.
