Bessie Mae Gary, 93,

Bessie Mae Gary, age 93, of Toledo and formerly of Montour, passed away, Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Carrington Place of Toledo.  Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating.  Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Visitation was held on Monday, March 12 from 4 – 6 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.  Bessie was born on April 15, 1918, at Montour, IA, the oldest of four children to Homer and Maymie (Dolezal) Booth. She grew up in Montour and graduated as valedictorian in 1936 from Montour High School.  She later attended Central Iowa Business College in Marshalltown.   She worked in the office for the Marshall Electric Company and KFJB before her marriage.  On September 11, 1941, she was united in marriage to Rolland Gary at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They had always lived and worked together on the Gary farm south of Montour until moving to the Village Apartments in Toledo in the year 2000.  Carrington Place became their home in 2007.  She was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church.  During her faith journey she taught the 4 year old Sunday school class for several years, and was a member of the UMW.  Bessie loved gardening, sewing, and a good garage sale.  She enjoyed sending cards to friends and relatives.  Family was very important to Bessie and she enjoyed every time they could gather together.  Preceding her in death where her parents; two brothers, Mark Booth and Warren Booth; and a son-in-law, Kenny Lowry.  Survivors include her husband, Rolland of Toledo; a daughter Kay Lowry of Gladbrook; a son Larry (B.J. Moore) Gary of Hurricane, UT; five grandchildren, Mark (Linda) Lowry of Gladbrook, Kathy (Scott) Vavroch of Gladbrook, Paul (Kari) Lowry of Platte City, MO, Derek Gary of DeKalb, IL and Hilary (Andy) Raih of DeKalb, IL; four great-granddaughters, Kendra Vavroch, Kayla Vavroch, Sydney Vavroch and Lillian Raih; a sister Myrtle Thompson of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Living Faith United Methodist Church.
