Ruth E. Kray

Ruth E Kray, 93, of Newhall, formerly of Garrison, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Heritage Nursing & Rehab in Cedar Rapids.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Garrison United Methodist Church with Rev. Lanette Sue Van officiating. Interment was held at the Garrison Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Ruth was born October 26, 1918 in LeRoy, Minn. to Everett and Wilhelmina (McWhirter) Roberts. On May 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Russell E. Kray at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ruth attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught country school in Reinbeck and the 2nd grade in Shellsburg, prior to her marriage. She was a 4-H leader and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was a member and past president of the Garrison Library Board and loved reading and doing crossword puzzles in her spare time.

She is survived by 2 sons, James (Anita) Kray of Boyden and David (Gloria) Kray of Newhall; her daughter, Janet Baburek of Cedar Rapids; her daughter-in-law Lois Kray of Vinton; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren with one on the way; 8 great-great grandchildren and her twin brother Russell Roberts of Reinbeck.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Russell, son William “Bill” Kray, her grandsons Lorenz Andresen Jr. and Jason Kray, her great granddaughter Brittany Geiger; 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Condolences may be left at www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com
