Obituary-Gary M. Rishel, 56

Gary M. Rishel, 56, Gladbrook, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 12, 2012, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center from cancer. Funeral services were held Saturday, Janury 12, 2012, at the United Presbyterian Church in traer, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date. Gary M. Rishel was born January 16, 1955 in Marshalltown, IA, son of Kenneth Milton and Agnes “Lucille” DeShong Rishel. Gary received his education in Marshalltown where he graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1973. He then joined the United States Army and served his country in Vietnam. Following his discharge he returned to Marshalltown where he began working for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company (now known as Alliant Energy) at the Sutherland Station. Gary recently celebrated 35 years of employment with the company. On June 4, 1982 he was united in marriage to Pat Jass at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alden, IA. In July of 1982 they moved to make their home in Gladbrook. In July 2011 Gary was diagnosed with cancer and his death came on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital at the age of 56 years. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Traer, Frank Lewis Glick Post # 46 in Marshalltown and a long time member of the National Rifle Association. He especially enjoyed hunting with his son Justin, spending time taking care of his yard and garden and spending time with his faithful companion Bear his Standard Poodle. One of Gary’s greatest enjoyments was spending time around his camp fire with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Pat of Gladbrook, one son Justin (Andrea) Rishel of Panora, IA, three granddaughters; Tristan, Taylor and Laci, and one brother Larry (Alice) Rishel of Farmington, PA.
