Obituary-Floyd Appelgate, 87

Floyd Appelgate, 87, of rural Marshalltown, died early Friday morning, January 13, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 16, at the Gladbrook Chapel United Methodist Church with his son-in-law, Rev. John Gaulke and Rev. Jennifer Daniel officiating. He was laid to rest in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. For condolences please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on November 29, 1924, at home in rural Tama County, he was the son of Frank and Emma (Beichley) Appelgate. He graduated from the Green Mountain High School in 1942. On August 1 1948, he was united in marriage to Myrene Yetley at the Chapel Church. They were involved in agriculture their entire married life. He began actively farming in 1968 at their current residence. He worked at Bob’s Feed and Supply Wake Feeds, Farm Service and also sold for Pioneer Seed Corn. Floyd drove school bus for many years for the Green Mountain School. Floyd was a member of the Gladbrook Chapel United Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau. Of the many loves in his life, his love for Jesus was the strongest. Surviving are his wife Myrene, five children and their families: LaRae (Jim) Little of Toledo and their children Charity (Matt) Bandstra with Grace, Noah, Samuel and Faith; Ben (Katie) Little with Lexi and Christian; and Andy Little: Cheryl (Mike) Callahan of rural Marshalltown and their children- Abbe, Nathan, Jared (fiancé Lindsey Smith): Mark (Shelley) Appelgate of rural Marshalltown and their children- Megan (Ben) Gonzalez with Benjamin and Jonathan: Myra (Josh) Anderson, and Travis (Angie) Appelgate: Merle (Jane) Appelgate of rural Marshalltown and their children- Kaleb, Seth and Caitlyn: LeAnn (John) Gaulke of Altoona and their children Jordan, Josiah and Hannah. Also surviving are his only sister Esther Helfer of Marshalltown and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings: Ruth Rasmussen, Rachel Zink, Catherine Read, LeRoy and Eugene Appelgate.
