Obituary-John “Jack” Bauch

John “Jack” Bauch, 82, of Traer, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of a brief pulmonary illness. Memorial Services were held at the Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. Visitation was at Overton Funeral Home in Traer on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, from 3 to 7 p.m. Full military rites will be conducted by the Traer American Legion. Burial will be at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. Following the memorial service a luncheon was served at the Traer Memorial Building. John (Jack) Stuart Bauch, Jr. was born April 22, 1929, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of J. Stuart Bauch and Julia (Judy) (Dondore) Bauch.  He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1946.  Jack received his B.A. degree from the University of Iowa in 1949 and enrolled at the University of Iowa College of Law.  As an Army 2nd Lieutenant he led a rifle platoon in Korea during 1950-1951 and was awarded two Purple Hearts.  On discharge he returned to law school and received his J.D. in 1954.  He was admitted to the Iowa State Bar that same year.  On September 4, 1954 he married Barbara Sievers in Waterloo, Iowa.  He was a lawyer in the Hyland Law Firm in Tama after their marriage.  The couple moved to Traer in 1956, where Jack practiced law until his death. Jack was very active in community affairs.  He served 20 years on the Traer City Council, 55 years on the Buckingham Cemetery Association Board of Trustees, and also served on the Board of Directors of First Community Bank and Trust, Tama State Bank, Delhi Savings Bank, and Pinnacle Bank.  Jack was a member of the Iowa State and the Tama County Bar Associations, the Traer American Legion, the Masons (Hesperia Lodge #340), the Scottish Rite and the El Kahir Shrine in Cedar Rapids.  Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing, and Tuesday men’s night at the Traer Golf Club.  He loved spending summers with family and friends at their cottage at Lake Okoboji.  He was an exuberant, very caring, and kind person.  He loved life, his wife, his family, his friends, and his clients.  He is survived by his wife Barbara; their daughter Elizabeth, of Mexico City, Mexico, and their son John Stuart Bauch III (Debbie), of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; his faithful four-legged companion; his two brothers: Jared (Marilyn), of Traer, and Jim (Chris), of Cedar Falls, a host of nieces and nephews and his office staff. He was pre-deceased by an infant son, his parents, and his sister Julia (Jill).
