M. Eileen Shemenski

Eileen Shemenski, 93 of Gladbrook, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. There will be no local services. Cremation rights have been accorded. A service will be held later in Martins Ferry, Ohio. The Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.vogelfuneralhomes. Mildred Eileen was born August 2, 1917 near Carroll, in Fairfield County, Ohio, to William and LeNora Shaffer Carpenter. She graduated from Carroll High School in 1935 and attended business college in Columbus. She worked as a legal secretary and married Andrew Shemenski on July 11, 1938. They were the parents of 5 children. The move to Martins Ferry in 1942 and resided there 58 years. After Andy passed away in 2000, she moved to Gladbrook to be near her daughter and family. She was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy McDaniel in 1995, her husband, Andrew, and infant great granddaughter, and her sisters June Kolp and Betty Kuhl. Shfe is survived by her children Michael (Ruth) Shemenski of Greer, S.C., Karen (Curtis) Ohrt of Gladbrook, IA, William (Bill) and Bonnie of Martins Ferry, Ohio and Stehan of Tucson, AZ, 11 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, and her sister, Martha Bower of Dayton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. Eileen will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her love of family and friends, her genealogy searches, her sewing and piano playing abilities, and her wonderful apple pies.
