Lucille M. Deke

Lucille M. Deke, 101, of Traer, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, Iowa. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 8, at Overton Funeral Home, Traer, Iowa. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the United Methodist Chruch in Traer. Burial was in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established. Deke was born October 28, 1909 at Tripoli, IA daughter of Henry C. and Louise Harmening Vogt. She received her education at Tripoli and then moved with her family to Waverly, IA where she graduated from Waverly High School in 1928. On May 16, 1929 she was united in marriage to H.E. Deke in Waverly and in October of that year they moved to Traer where H.E. started his automobile business. Lucille was proud homemaker and was involved in United Methodist Church and the Traer Community. Her memberships included the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a longtime member of the Buckingham Cemetery Association Board and the Traer Women’s Club. Lucille was very involved in the yearly church bazaar and enjoyed her crafts and doing her needle work. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband H.E. on May 22, 1985, one grandson Douglas Dierks, one brother Leslie Vogt and one sister Luella Hartman and a son-in-law Sam Blase. She is survived by one son Dean Deke of Cedar Falls, IA, two daughters, Sandra (Gary) Dierks of Traer and Shirley Blasé of Woodbridge, VA, 5 grandsons, Dan Dierks, Dave Dierks, Dennis Deke, Tyler Deke and Tracy Deke and 8 great grandchildren.
