Obituary

Schlosser, Joan Louise May 16, 1933 Feb 23, 2011

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John R. Schlosser. Joan is survived by son, John Schlosser of Omaha; daughter, Julie Jacobs and partner Cindy of Coralville, Iowa.

Joan was born in Downers Grove, Ill., on May 16, 1933, the only child of William and Sophie Zitt. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, where she met her husband. Joan and John lived in many towns in Iowa, including Primghar, Olin, Onawa, Mapleton and Reinbeck, where her children graduated from high school. Joan spent many years teaching music before starting a second career with Montgomery Ward in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and later at the store in Westroads Mall, Omaha. She was an avid musician and played violin with the Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Clinton and Waterloo Symphony orchestras at various times throughout her life.

After retiring, Joan continued to work part time for the Linden Market HyVee in the camera and video department to support her hobbies: photography, quilting and participating in AVA/IVV events with the Nebraska Trailblazers Volksport Club. She lived almost 25 happy, health years after a battle with breast cancer, but a recurrence eventually claimed her life.

The family will received friends Sunday, Feb 27, 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the West Center Chapel, 7805 West Center Road, Omaha. Interment was held Tuesday, March 1, 2 p.m., Reinbeck, Cemetery. Officiating: Pastor Terry Plocher, Reinbeck United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Susan G. Komen for the Cure or Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha.
