Corky was born on January 6, 1928 to his parents William and Sarah Eiffler. He grew up and was educated in Howard County. Corky served his country in World War II as a member of the Army’s 11th Airborne Division. He was a paratrooper until a knee injury prohibited him from jumping out of airplanes. He then was reassigned as a truck driver, which he was for the remainder of his active service. Corky was united in marriage to Valdorene Taft on February 17, 1948. They moved to Cedar Falls and then relocated to Reinbeck; welcoming 6 children into their family.

Corky worked as a machine operator and foreman at Wagner Overhead Door, in Cedar Falls, and Waterloo Industries in Waterloo. He also custom farmed for most of his life. Corky retired in the early 1990’s.

Corky was an avid fisherman and he loved to drive his classic 1953 Nash with his dog Tiger. The children at the church referred to him as the “candy man” because he always had candy for them.

Corky is survived by his children, Cheryl (the late Darrell) Essen of Lander, Wyo., Janice (Joe) Waleski of Reinbeck, Lynette (Duane) Leeper of Hudson, Cindy (Craig) Stuber of Kingman, Ariz. and Daryl (Chris) Eiffler of Garner; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Lillian Eiffler.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Valdorene; an infant son; granddaughter Melissa Mathes; brothers Herb and Melvin Eiffler and sisters Viola Frahm and Myrtle Schwake.
