Paul Luckinbill

Born: January 3, 1927 Passed Away: October 25, 2010 Paul Luckinbill passed away quietly at his home in Dallas, Texas on October 25, 2010. He was born January 3, 1927 to Harold and Winona (West) Luckinbill in Coon Rapids, Iowa. The family later moved to Guthrie Center where Paul attended the Elementary School. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School – Class of 1945. Paul attended Drake University in Des Moines before transferring to the University of Iowa where he earned his Degree in Journalism. In 1950 Paul joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany during his tenure. Upon his return to the States he joined his Uncle Cecil West, editor of the Tama Northern Newspaper in Gladbrook, Iowa. Paul became the editor of the Garwin Sun News as well. Paul and Cecil worked together for ten years. Paul married Mayre Harris of Gladbrook. They later divorced. In the mid 1960s Paul moved to Los Angeles California and worked for Transamerica Corperation in their printing department. He retired in 1985 and moved to Dallas, Texas where he has been active in retirement playing Bridge and enjoying social activities with a group of friends. He traveled to Europe and enjoyed his retirement with friends and family and attended his nieces’ weddings by escorting them down the aisle. Paul with his brother Merle, Frankfurt Germany 1953. He enjoyed his home, a dog and a special cat, plus the yard with flowers and trees and an outdoor patio. His Christmas cards always included all of these. Preceding Paul in death were his parents, Harold and Winona (West) Luckinbill and a favorite Aunt Vera (Luckinbill) Neal. Paul and Vera never missed a Sunday evening telephone visit until last year. Paul is survived by many loving relatives: his brother Merle, New Orleans, La. Helen Luckinbill, sister-in-law as well as Clint Luckinbill, nephew, San Jacinto, Ca. Niece Cynthia and Peter Hettinga, Helene, Harvey, John of Ontario, Ca., and niece Susan and John Radford, Blair, Johnny, Hailey, Id. Shaun, Stephanie Neal and friend Eddie Boruch of Osceola, Ne., David and Mary Luckinbill, Dexter, Ia., Kenny Luckinbill, Omaha, Ne., Matt and Dana McKeever, Dexter, Ia., Cheryl and Dennis Straub, Winston-Salem, NC., Denny and Judy Dougherty, Lakewood, Colo., Michelle and Jerry Towers, Des Moines, Ia., Kristin Dougherty and Christoper Jones, Lakewoood, Colo., Joe and Renae Doran of Kennard, Ne., Kim West, Gladbrook, Ia., Frank McKinney, Norwalk, Ia., During Paul’s last few years he suffered physical ailment’s limiting his mobility and ultimately resulting in his death. During this period of time Paul was cared for by David McGinnis. Paul’s ashes will be placed in a space at the Columbarium at the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas, Texas.
