Fern Stamp

Fern Stamp, 92, of Garwin, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at Carrington Place of Toledo of natural causes. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Garwin Christian Church. Burial was at Crystal Cemetery rural Garwin, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be left a www.overtonservice.com. Fern Elizabeth Dowd Stamp was born May 13, 1918 in Highland Township near Montour, Iowa to Robert Earl and Floyd Elizabeth Hufford Dowd. She attended Highland # 5 County School through the 8th grade and then continued her education at the Toledo High School where she graduated in 1937. After graduation she attended AIB in Des Moines for 2 years. On December 30, 1941 she married Frank Jacob Stamp at the home of B.J. Green in Marshalltown. Frank and Fern began their life together on a farm at Garwin, IA. Shortly after their new life together Frank left to serve his country during WWII. After his discharge they started a family and were blessed with three children, Susan, Dennis and Doug. Fern and Frank made their home farming all their married life east and south of Garwin. After Frank’s death on April 19, 1976 she moved to town. Fern’s death came at the Carrington Place of Toledo on Monday, August 16, 2010 at the age of 92 years. She was a member of the Garwin Christian Church and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She also was a member of the Buzzin Dozen ladies Club for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, two brothers Donald and Robert and one sister in infancy. She is survived by two sons; Dennis of Oelwein, IA and Douglas (Deb) Stamp of Garwin and one daughter Susan (Paul) Dixon of Mason City, IA, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
