TOLEDO – The Monday, Oct. 19, Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting started like most, with the roads report.

The new county engineer, who is tenderfooted, but finding his stride, talked about blading, mowing, and repairs being done. Later, a resolution for the designation of County Engineer was approved.

The Traveling Tapster was approved for a liquor license.

The Recorder’s Quarterly Report was approved.

A resolution to appropriate funds to the Public Health that were already designated for the department was approved; Supervisor Curt Kupka (R-Chelsea) voted nay.

Although the issue itself, as well as the mistaken disbursement of papers, caused confusion among the board, they figured out the problem at hand: dealing with a tax refund. As certain parcels were previously deemed and taxed real, but recently ruled on by the Supreme Court to be private, the taxes collected need to be refunded. The supervisors approved refunding the tax on a single claim, which came to approximately $1,400.

Claims totaling $299,967.89 were approved.
