TOLEDO – It looked like there would be no audience for the Monday, June 15 Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting, but sure enough, the regular crowd came shuffling in. Once again, four 10-hour days for Secondary Roads employees were the main subject for the supervisors.

The union president for Secondary Roads showed up with a list of names for the supervisors. Having taken a poll of the workers since last week, the list showed three columns: those in favor of 4-10s, those who want to remain at 5-8s, and those who are ambivalent. The majority of the workers were in favor of the 4-10 days.

It was agreed that those wanting to remain at the status quo (5-8s) could remain so. The plan moved forward on the condition that one of the mechanics cover Friday, so that there is a mechanic on shift all five days. The supervisors voted, and the plan passed 3-2, with Supervisors Mark Doland and Curt Kupka opposing.

The supervisors approved the discontinuation of the dispersion of Road Use Tax Funds for Farm to Market extensions to towns in Tama County with a population of fewer than 500 people.

The supervisors approved two Poweshiek Water Association Utility permits.

Kevin Eikamp of Dysart was reappointed to the Veterans Affairs Board.

The supervisors approved two new funds for the Sheriff’s Department for the Be The Example Award and K9 programs. This is in order to make things more transparent, and in the budget, less donation based. The supervisors as well approved opening accounts for the funds at WCF and making the auditor, treasurer, treasurer’s tax assistant, sheriff, and chief deputy sheriff as signers on the accounts.

Claims totaling $284,087.20 were approved.
