GRUNDY COUNTY – Leila Staton, Democratic candidate for Iowa House District 54, recently announced the endorsement of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, one of the most consistently trusted voices in American politics and a decades-long champion of working people over corporate power.

For decades, Sen. Sanders has taken on the billionaires and the politicians in their pockets without ever taking a corporate check or backing down. That unbroken record is why Americans keep turning to him year after year as a national leader.

“Today, I am proud to endorse Leila Staton, a progressive running for Iowa House.

She will fight for the kind of changes our country desperately needs,” Sen. Sanders stated.

For Staton, the endorsement reflects what her campaign has been about from the start. While the incumbent has been stoking grievance politics and pitting this community against itself, Staton has been showing up in District 54 bringing people together around the things that actually matter, rent, healthcare, and whether their kids can afford to build a life in their hometown.

“Senator Sanders has spent his whole career proving that you can take on corporate greed, fight for healthcare and housing and living wages, and never once sell out the people who put you there. That is our blueprint for IA District 54,” Staton said. “People here deserve a representative who is laser-focused on making their lives easier, keeping the hospital open, keeping young people from having to leave, and making rent something you can actually afford on what you earn here. That is the job, and Senator Sanders has never forgotten that. Having him behind this campaign means everything.”
