CHELSEA – Tama County Women, Land & Legacy (WLL) announces its 55th event, “Branch to Bounty: Fruit Tree Pruning.” It will be held on Monday, March 23, at the Ellen and Tom Upah farmstead, 2602 320th Street in rural Chelsea. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 5 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on March 25 at the same time and location.

This event is free and open to the general public, both women and men. A light supper will be served following the event, so an RSVP is required by March 20 by phoning 641-484-2703 or by emailing melody.bro@ia.nacdnet.net . Please bring a lawn chair and dress for the weather, including sturdy footwear.

ISU Extension & Outreach’s Patrick O’Malley will share on aspects of different fruit trees and the tools needed to prune them. His presentation will also include the reasons for pruning and training and a pruning demonstration on some of the Upahs’ fruit trees on site.

O’Malley has been the Commercial Horticulture Field Specialist with Iowa State University Extension & Outreach for the eastern third of Iowa for over 30 years. He has interests in all aspects of horticulture and has over 40 years of experience in the field. Patrick has always had a special affinity for fruits and vegetables but has worked with both temperate and tropical plants.
