Gladbrook experiences temporary power outage following semi accident
GLADBROOK – More than 700 Alliant Energy customers in the Gladbrook area experienced a temporary power outage last week Friday, Jan. 9, following a semi-truck accident.
According to Chief Deputy Joe Quandt with the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in at 3:10 p.m. Friday for a semi that had “struck a power line pole” at the intersection of Johnston and King streets in Gladbrook. The accident led to a power outage for about two hours while crews made repairs.
When contacted by the newspaper that same afternoon, Craig Sash with Gladbrook Fire & Rescue said a semi had backed into a power pole near the former Gethmann Construction lot located on Front Street (across from the Johnston-King intersection), “causing the pole to snap in half and lines shorting out.”
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday, FindEnergy.com reported 724 tracked meters were without power in Tama County.
This past Monday, Alliant Energy’s Taylor Adams confirmed to the newspaper in an email that a semi-truck had struck one of Alliant’s poles.
“Additionally, a smaller, non-related outage occurred at the same time due to equipment needing repairs,” Adams said. “In total, about 700 customers in Tama County were affected.”
