Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA competes at District Soil Judging Contest

IOWA FALLS – On Oct. 1, Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA traveled to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls to compete in the NC District Soil Judging Contest. A total of 78 teams from 30 chapters competed at the contest.

FFA members evaluated four different soil pits and completed a written exam about Iowa soils. Members identified soil profiles, land productivity, best soil management practices, and surface features. They also recommended agricultural and non-agricultural uses for the land.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck FFA had three teams compete. Team 1 consisted of Karina Arvizu-Ersland, Kinzee Hemann, Parker Schmidt, and Haven Thompson. They received a silver rating. Team 3 also received a silver rating, with team members Cadence Danner-Roderick, Dally Nicholas, Karli Heasley, and LaKenze Shipley. Receiving a bronze was Hudson Clark, Macklin Clark, Malakai Lancaster, and Laken Thesing on Team 2.
