GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook American Legion Auxiliary met on. Sept. 8 for a dinner meeting. Unit President Jeanne Paustian called the meeting to order. She reported on her travels to Shelby and Tampa.
PNP Nicole Clapp and Jeanne attended the 100th American Legion World Series of Baseball in Shelby, NC. They enjoyed watching 15 games in five days. The team from Virginia won the tournament. Iowa’s team didn’t make it to Shelby as they lost in the finals of the Great Lakes Regional.
Jeanne and Nicole, representing the Gladbrook Unit, traveled to Tampa, Fla. to attend the 104th National American Legion & Auxiliary Convention. Jeanne was a delegate from Iowa. They enjoyed attending the Commanders and State dinners besides all the meetings. During the Americanism report, the chairman showed a picture of the Gladbrook Unit’s flag day program at Westbrook. The Unit received the National Central Division VA&R Award. Nicole participated in the installation of the new National President from Illinois. Jeanne and Nicole enjoyed the river walk and riding on the water taxi. Members enjoyed receiving trinkets from the two events.
For the September program, Becky Fevold talked about her family’s Clydesdales. For four generations her family has been showing Clydesdales at national, state, and county fairs. Everyone enjoyed seeing trophies, ribbons, and pictures of their accomplishments. They will be showing at the World Show in Illinois.
Now is the time for Unit members to pay their membership dues of $35; please give to Jolene Denbow.
