GARWIN — The ex-girlfriend of a man who was arrested and charged with animal neglect in connection with the death of a dog at a Garwin residence has also been arrested in connection with the same case, according to court records.

Nikki Emily Rose Bollas, 28, has been charged with the same crime as 26-year-old Daltin Dillingham after Tama County law enforcement was called to a residence on Park Street in Garwin to investigate a deceased dog in a kennel.

“Upon arrival one dog was found to be locked in a kennel, had no water, food, or shelter, and was deceased. A second dog was found to be loose in the yard that had apparently dug its way out of the kennel. A third dog was tied on a chain. It had water but no food or shelter,” the criminal complaint reads.

The report indicates that Dillingham arrived at the scene and “took full responsibility” for the dogs before Bollas arrived a short time later. During Dillingham’s initial court appearance the following day, however, he told the judge that the dogs did not belong to him, and he no longer lived at the residence in Garwin.

After her arrest on Aug. 22, Bollas posted a $4,000 cash bond on Aug. 26, and her attorney, Mark Torche of Marshalltown, has waived the defendant’s right to an initial appearance scheduled for Sept. 9. Arraignment and trial dates have not yet been set.
