Leila Staton declares candidacy for House District 54

REINBECK – Leila Staton, 21, a child sexual assault advocate, womens’ health advocate, and community organizer who resides in Stout has formally announced her candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives District 54. Staton is moving with a mission: to give District 54 a voice that represents all Iowans and fight to protect our rural communities. Iowans deserve better.

“The citizens of House District 54 have been left behind, from votes to defund our public schools to eminent domain abuse, representatives are putting their political ideology and corporate interests above everyday Iowans-and it must stop,” Staton stated. “With the threats to teachers, students, workers, parents, and healthcare-this system is failing us. We need real, lasting change to strengthen our communities and better the lives of Iowans – not policy that benefits only the wealthy.”

Staton’s top priorities include:

-Eliminate Private School Vouchers

-Stop eminent domain abuse for private gain

-Expand affordable rural healthcare (including OB-GYN)

-Make housing affordable

“I pledge to be a representative for all, not just the ones who vote for me. It is time to put political ideologies to the side, and select leaders who threaten the status quo to work for the good of the people. I look forward to meeting more citizens of the district to listen. I look forward to working for the support of all people in District 54,” Staton stated.

On Saturday, July 19, Stanton began her campaign across the district with a “Coffee and Conversation” event at Beans and Blooms [recently rebranded The Funky Bean Coffee Boutique] in Reinbeck.
