GLADBROOK – The Peace Church congregation in Gladbrook honored their veterans this past Sunday, May 25, ahead of Memorial Day.
As a veteran entered the church, they received a red, white, and blue ribbon pin. During the service a patriotic video of pictures of our local Legionnaires was played to “God Bless the USA.” Many enjoyed the pictures of our veterans riding on floats, in the colorguard, with the Junior Auxiliary members, at the nursing home, at Veteran Day celebrations and Avenue of Flags, driving the old jeep, and the list goes on.
The veterans received a flag and a USA bracelet. They were also honored with a framed certificate which read: “I have done things that haunt me at night, so you can sleep in Peace. I have been away from my family a long time so that yours can be Safe. I have sacrificed a lot in my life, so that you may live Free. I have done these things because I have sworn an oath to my Country. And I will live by this oath until the day I die, because I am and always will be a U.S. Veteran.” (Author unknown.)
The veterans and congregation enjoyed a brunch following the service.
