TOLEDO – The Tama County Historical Society will present a program on Aviation in Iowa on Wednesday, June 11, at 7 p.m. at the Wieting Theatre, 101 S. Church St, Toledo.

Amelia Earhart, the most famous woman to fly, was raised in Des Moines and saw her first airplane at the Iowa State Fair. Amateur historian and aviation fan David Wendell will explore Iowa’s connection to the early history of flight, as well as explore Earhart’s rise to fame and the enduring mystery of her disappearance.

Wendell is the founder and curator of the Wendell Air and Space Museum Online, featuring 365 autographed model airplanes and space shuttles. He spent more than 25 years traveling the country having his models signed by the pilots who once flew them. He resides in Marion, Iowa.

This event is free and open to the public.
