Gladbrook Women’s Club News

GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook Women’s Club met on February 13 with the program given by Rose Russell on the Prayer Shawl Ministry known as HANDS, Hope and Needles Doing Service. The ministry was started in 2011 with 40 or more attending throughout the years. A little less than 2000 shawls have been given to date.

Co-President Rhonda called the meeting to order with 12 members answering whether they would prefer flowers or chocolate for Valentine’s Day.

The January minutes were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given. A request for a donation to the GMB after-prom was read. A motion to donate to both GMG and GR after-prom was made by Arlen and seconded by Ann.

A reminder that our June outing has been changed to June 19.

The totes have been sorted. Anyone willing to help move them to the library, meet at the church on Friday, February 21, at 1 p.m.

Easter egg coloring needs to be checked on as to whether Westbrook would still like to do this.

The meeting was then adjourned.

March News

Our meeting on March 13 started with our program presented by Sara Mattingly from Garwin on her urban gardening. She has turned her backyard into a garden of fruit trees and vegetable plants. She told of several things that she makes with her produce. She even used some of the weeds that grow in her garden!

Co-President Rhonda called the meeting to order with 16 members and one guest answering to what their favorite thing about spring is.

The February minutes were read, and the treasurer’s report was given.

A thank-you note from the Gladbrook Library for our donation was read.

Be thinking of prospective members that can be invited to our May meeting at BarLea Roots. Guests’ lunch will be paid for by the club.

Our April meeting will be a salad luncheon serving the Senior Citizens. Our program will be Melinda Ruopp and her K-9 Lizzy.

The Easter Egg coloring at Westbrook will be at Westbrook on April 17 at 2 p.m. Plastic eggs will be used and volunteers will help with markers and stickers to decorate them. Rice krispie treats decorated with Easter M&Ms will be served.

The nominating committee is looking at what officer positions need to be filled for 2025-2026. Installation will be at our May meeting.

We are signed up to work the Tama County Fair food stand on Thursday, July 17. The special that day will be the roast beef sundae.
