Tama County Board of Supervisors Sept. 16 meeting
TOLEDO – After waking up to a bright sunny morning last Monday, multiple local citizens gathered to attend the week’s Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting on Sept. 16. Starting off with the County Engineer like usual, it was reported that Iowa Bridge and Culvert have finished up on F Avenue and only have seeding left to do. Two crews will be retrieving shoulders on D65, K Avenue will be closing for a day to replace the wood deck.
A public hearing was held for the open records ordinance with no issue. The supervisors approved waiving the second and third readings of the ordinance and moved on to approve the resolution and changes to the ordinance.
A change to the county courthouse lawn policy was on the agenda. This item stemmed from the supervisors’ and auditor’s office’s equal ignorance and confusion of the fact that it was the Satanic Temple that requested and was approved to use the lawn. The new policy, drafted by Tama County Human Resources Manager Tammy Wise based on suggestions from an attorney, has more requirements for those who want to gain permission to use the lawn in the future. Insurance will have to be proven and a hundred dollar deposit will have to be submitted. As the citizens and the supervisors discussed the new policy all types of possible situations came up including animal sacrifice. The supervisors approved the new policy.
Emma Peebles addressed the supervisors about a couple of different tax sale reassignment properties, all in Clutier. This week she came to a deal with the supervisors on one property.
Claims totaling $168,672.22 were approved.
