TOLEDO – As the sun peeked over the horizon and some locals still snoozed, dreaming of sugar plums, the usual bunch met up for the Monday, July 8 Tama County Board of Supervisors’ meeting. The meeting kicked off first with the announcement of a new rule.
From now on, there shall no longer be any lollygagging in the meeting room. All of those in attendance must take their pleasantries, debates, and idle conversations out of the building within five minutes of the official meeting’s adjournment.
First up was the county engineer giving his report, saying spot rocking and blading would be done after the recent rains. Pulling corn stalks out of ditches is still having to be done after the rain deluge a few weeks ago. Iowa Bridge and Culvert will be closing E Avenue south of Lincoln to do some work. A new motor grader was purchased for approximately $389,000 including a trade-in. A small bridge that was washed out in the storm a few weeks back was discussed as well, it is not known currently what will be done.
A new county employee handbook was approved, with some updates and tweaks.
Michael Buchanan from Montour was approved to the EMS Advisory Board.
The Sheriff’s Quarterly Report and the Law Enforcement Contracts were approved.
The first public hearing to tweak the recently approved Public Comment Ordinance was passed after a few gave their opinions on the subject. The next public hearing on the ordinance will be at the next meeting, next Monday.
Claims totaling $562,363.95 were approved.
