LINCOLN – It was ‘A Night to Remember’ for many area high school students last Saturday in Lincoln as Gladbrook-Reinbeck High School celebrated Prom 2024 by attendees making their way down Main Street as part of the traditional grand march/walk-in ceremony.

Battling both the wind and chilly conditions, attendees promenaded exactly one block through the downtown – starting at roughly Lincoln Street before pausing for yearbook photos and then entering AmVet Hall which had been decked out in the style of a Hollywood premiere complete with a red carpet.

Prior to the walk-in, prom attendees paraded around town several times in their vehicles which spanned the decades and included everything from an International Scout to new farm trucks to classic cars.

Earlier that afternoon, G-R’s beloved ‘Grandma Janet’ – aka retired educator Janet Schildroth – along with members of the Class of 2025 welcomed the public to AmVet Hall from 3:30-5 p.m. to view this year’s prom decorations.

The hall was decorated in high end gold, silver, and black to go along with the Hollywood theme. Details included clapperboards, miniature Oscar statues, and even a Candy Bar featuring plenty of Reese’s pieces among other candies.

Many of this season’s prom dresses are sleeveless and feature open backs with plunging necklines and side slits – styles that weren’t exactly conducive to the overcast, cold and windy weather on Saturday in Iowa. Nevertheless, G-R’s 2024 prom attendees looked fabulous and every bit befitting the 2024 theme.
