Leave it to ‘de-beaver’

TOLEDO – Last week’s Tama Co. Board of Supervisors meeting (held on Tuesday due to the Christmas holiday) was short and easy, with only one moment that truly enthralled during County Engineer Ben Daleske’s update to the Supervisors.

Daleske was talking bridges when he was informed that a bridge over by Traer recently had a dam built underneath it by some particularly brazen beavers. This is when he decided to use one of those esoteric engineering terms, as he said he would “de-beaver it.”

For a little while afterward, beavers were the subject of the room. Not limited to but including trapping, skinning, shaving, selling, and the popularity of the beaver skin hat. It was also discussed how Daleske would remove the dam and ultimately “de-beaver” the bridge.

Other business

The Engineer also stated that they will soon be receiving a new CAT motor grader that was ordered by the previous County Engineer; a second one may be delivered shortly thereafter. They are still working to get things done while the weather is nice. Also, they are firming up the deck on the K Avenue bridge project and will hopefully pour the deck soon.

The Supervisors approved moving the next meeting to Tuesday, Jan. 2, due to the New Year’s holiday.

The Supervisors also heard recommendations from the Compensation Board.

Claims totaling $98,883.42 were approved.
