TOLEDO – Last week, the Tama County Board of Supervisors spent most of their meeting time talking over policy changes to the employee handbook.

Head of Human Resources Tammy Wise explained all of the alterations that will go into effect on January 1, 2024, including some simple changes in wording and larger, more planned modifications.

One of the more discussed issues was the county credit card being used to pay for food. The auditor’s office has had a tough time retrieving receipts for such items, so it was decided to no longer have employees use the county credit card to pay for food. Employees will still be reimbursed for their food purchases.

All of the alterations to the employee handbook were approved by the supervisors except for one – the phone policy. After much discussion, the supervisors could not come to a decision as to how to proceed with work phones. The topic of who should be using a work phone instead of their own personal phone ended up being more complicated than first thought. The phone policy was tabled until a later date.

The county engineer reported that they are still preparing for winter and stock-piling rock. All of the piles have been driven on the K Avenue bridge project, next up is the abutments.

Later this week, the county engineer will be attending the Iowa County Engineers conference. The supervisors also signed the final vouchers for the paving project on T47.

The supervisors tabled the solar ordinance and passed it on to the zoning commission. They also shared a working copy of the solar ordinance with the Heartland Risk Pool Counties.

TaKayla Kerkove with the Tama County Humane Society was also at the meeting so that the supervisors could approve the new animal control contract.
