Rebels break free of host Central City to advance

CENTRAL CITY — Isaac Clark threw four touchdown passes – two to Drew Eilers and two to Hudson Clark – to lead the ninth-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team to a 36-12 victory over Central City in Friday’s 8-Man state playoffs.

Austin Vaverka opened the scoring with a 48-yard touchdown run for the Rebels (9-1), who never trailed in this game. Isaac Clark connected with Hudson Clark for scoring strikes of 35 and 13 yards, and he hit Eilers for 9 and 27 yards to advance.

Isaac Clark finished 13-for-23 for 165 yards passing. The Rebels ran for 135 yards, with Clark getting 74 yards and Vaverka adding 60 more.

G-R outgained Central City 299-220 in total offense. Jayden Hanson scored both touchdowns for the Wildcats (8-2), getting a 4-yard TD run and a 22-yard touchdown pass from Aiden Klostermann.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck (9-1) will travel to face the fifth-ranked, undefeated Clarksville Indians (11-0) in Thursday’s state quarterfinals. The only loss the Rebels have suffered this season was against the Indians back on Oct. 6 in Gladbrook. G-R narrowly fell 38-36 to Clarksville.

The winner of this Thursday’s game will head to the UNI-Dome for the state semifinals.
