DES MOINES – Young bakers from across the state put their best cinnamon rolls to the test in the Kid Sponsored Cinnamon Roll Championship judged Friday, August 18, at the 2023 Iowa State Fair. Lauren Keller of Gladbrook took first place in the Drizzled or Glazed Cinnamon Rolls class in the Ages 13-17 division.

Lily Twigg of Waukee won first place overall and a $150 cash award.

Tiana Westercamp of Keosauqua earned second place overall and $75. Paige Hilgerson of West Des Moines claimed third place overall and $50.

Entries were judged on taste/flavor/texture, appearance and written story.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 138 divisions, 695 classes and over 6,800 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
