REINBECK – Ahead of Memorial Day which was observed on Monday, May 29, Gladbrook-Reinbeck third graders walked to Reinbeck Cemetery to place small flags on individual Veterans’ graves as is tradition. The students also learned about Memorial Day. That same day, members of Jesse Blohm’s Reinbeck 4-H Club helped place more than 550 poppies on the graves of military Veterans.

On Monday, a Memorial Day service was held at the cemetery at 10 a.m. led by Pastor Kevin Richter of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Members of the Reinbeck American Legion Post 242 conducted the ceremony.

Nearby, white crosses dotted the lawn, listing the names of each Veteran along with the war and branch of the military they served in – making it easy for visitors to the cemetery to learn more about a particular Veteran they might be searching for.

Following the service at Reinbeck Cemetery, Legion members made their way to St. Gabriel Catholic Church cemetery, followed by Morrison and Amity cemeteries.
