The GMG-Garwin junior class held a fundraising event recently for students to pie a teacher in the face. The event raised $96 to help the junior class with prom.

Students purchased a pie of shaving cream for $1. It was so cheap, that some students either bought more than one for a teacher, or there were students paying their classmates to pie one of the teachers.

GMG held a yearly event where each student has the opportunity to pay to get a shaving cream pie to shove into the face of teachers who volunteered to be the victims. Teachers involved inclulded Ms. Kopriva, Mrs. Larson, Ms. Wall, Mr. Teske, Mrs. Sharp, Mr. Chaney, and Ms. Harting. Gayle Beck and Ms. Montaño were on the list, but there wasn’t enough time.

According to sponsor Ms. Montaño, there were some problems that happened. The weather kept pushing the event back. The original date was supposed to be the day before Christmas break. Some staff were unable to participate, as well as some students got a little more ‘violent’ with the pies than others.

The junior class, unfortunately, made less money this year than last year. The juniors had to cancel the tape the teacher to the wall (another yearly event) because there wasn’t enough time for it due to continuing weather issues.

Beck provided the paper plates, while Ms. Montańo and Ms. Harting bought the shaving cream, trash bags, and shower caps for the teachers to wear.

“Immediately after getting pied in the face,” said Scott Chaney, “I would say that my face felt wet…like someone had just slammed multiple tins of shaving cream into my face. But, hey, it’s for a good cause and it’s pretty fun to let the students have some payback.”

“It was a mix of emotions,” said Jeff Teske, “from helping the juniors raise needed funds and students getting even with me for past and future assessments.”
