Richelieu Foods, a Freiberger Company and part of the Südzucker AG, recently announced that it has made the decision to close the Richelieu Foods facility in Grundy Center as part of a cost reduction and business consolidation plan. A portion of the business previously supplied by Grundy Center will be consolidated into operations in Elk Grove Village, IL, another Richelieu facility that has similar capabilities.

The closure of the facility is immediate, and the company will work to consolidate over the next 60 days.

“Closing a facility is a hard decision, but one that will ultimately improve the competitiveness of Richelieu for the long term. The community and people of Grundy Center have been great partners for Richelieu over many years here, and we will do what we can to help our employees find work at other businesses in the area,” said Brian Fox, CEO of Richelieu Foods.

Employees at the facility have been informed about the decision and will be offered the opportunity to relocate to other Richelieu facilities.
