Grundy County Historical Collections is excited to announce their Annual Spring Open House scheduled for Sunday, March 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Grundy County Heritage Museum in Morrison.

Just prior to the open house last year we finished up Bob Voigt’s artifact display. Grundy County Historical Collections contracted with Wapsi Valley Archeology to accession all of Mr. Voigt’s artifacts and design a display plan. Nurit Finn was the leader of this project and we are excited to have her join us for this year’s open house to share with us the highlights of Bob Voigt’s artifacts. Her presentation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Nurit has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things Native American. If you have an artifact that you have found or one that has been passed down that you need help identifying, please bring it along to the open house for Nurit to take a look at.

Following Nurit’s presentation we are excited to unveil Jim Freed’s re-creation of the Morrison Presbyterian Church located on Henry Schick’s property in Morrison. Jim is a master woodworker and has created amazing models or miniatures of famous buildings in the past. Through conversations with Jim, we discovered that he remembers attending the Morrison Presbyterian church with his grandparents Millard and Freda Freed. In less than a year Jim finished the project and we are excited to unveil his re-creation of the Morrison Presbyterian Church in a smaller form in memory of his grandparents Millard and Freda Freed.

To end the afternoon on March 19 there will be refreshments furnished by the Historical Collections Board. Come join us for a fun afternoon at the Grundy County Heritage Museum.
