Spring is around the corner and area producers and landowners are invited to learn about spring management of cover crops. The free event will be on Friday, March 10, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Legion Room of the Grundy Center Community Center. The event is open to anyone interested and not limited to those who are already using cover crops. Terry Basol, Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist, will present information about herbicide effectiveness and pest scouting in fields with cover crops. Courtney Myers and Faith Luce from the Grundy County Soil & Water Conservation District will present information about cost-share programs available for 2023. The Iowa Corn Growers will cover current events and hot topics in the commodity world. A farmer panel of three local farmers with a variety of cover cropping experiences and goals for their operations will be available for a question and answer period. The event will conclude with a meal provided by the Iowa Corn Growers. An optional, informal discussion about strip-till strategies will be held after lunch for those who are interested in networking with other strip-tillers.
