Gladbrook Womens’ Club News
The Gladbrook Womens’ Club met at the United Methodist Church on January 12. Twenty members answered roll call with an answer to “What did you do for Christmas?”
Co-President Joan introduced Dana Brown who presented a very interesting program on a beekeeper. All dressed in her beekeeping suit, she explained the different elements of the suit. She talked about starting six years ago with one hive and a three pound package of bees! She then explained the intricate life of the queen bee and the jobs of all the other bees in the hive. Definitely explains the expression, “Busy as a Bee!”
Resuming our meeting, the minutes were read and treasurer report given and approved.
Thank you notes from the Gladbrook Library and the local food pantry were read.
In the membership report several names were mentioned for future members. The membership chairman will reach out to them.
Karen gave the historian report recapping the Festival of Trees winners. She mentioned that she didn’t have pictures of all the winners and if anyone had taken pictures to please share for our historian book.
In old business a recap of our Christmas get-together at Legends was given. Everyone had a great meal and a good time. The table decorations were auctioned off, thanks to our auctioneer, Keith Sash. We raised $263 to be donated to the food pantry.
An amendment to article 3 section E in our bylaws was discussed. Avrielle motioned to accept the amendment as presented by the board. The motion was seconded by Joyce. Motion carried.
In new business, a fall fundraiser for 2023 was discussed. Last year we had workers but no chairmen. It is felt that we need to gain some new members to be able to hold fundraisers as has been done in the past. A motion was made by Karen to do a fall fundraiser and seconded by Stephanie. Motion carried.
The club received memorial money from the Boldt family in memory of Suzanne. It was recommended by the board to put it toward the flower purchases for the planters on Main Street. A motion was made by Karen to
put half toward the 2023 flowers and half toward the 2024 flowers. Seconded by Marcy. Motion carried.
Committee sign-up sheets for 2023-2024 were passed around.
The February meeting will be held at Spanky’s on the Feb. 9.
The meeting was adjourned, Members then enjoyed a cake made with honey!
