GMG baseball falls in first round of playoffs

Belle Plaine put an end to GMG baseball’s season Saturday, July 2, with a 10-4 victory in the first round of Class 1A District 5 action.

GMG ends the campaign with an 8-13 record.

The Wolverines scored two runs in the third inning to get within 5-2 and then scored two more in the bottom of the seventh as their comeback came up short.

Brayden Duden was on the mound for GMG and pitched five innings, giving up six earned runs and five hits while walking three. Zach Duncan pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits while walking five. Colin Teske went scoreless in two-thirds of an inning.

At the plate the Wolverines had five hits, with Wyatt Jackson recording two to lead the way. Rider Kupka, Duden and Teske had GMG’s other three hits.
