4-H Youth Programs Open To All

Tama County 4-H is excited to offer these summer programs to all youth of Tama County.

On Their Own and OK

Those who have completed grades 4-6 will spend the day learning about what they can do when they are home alone for a short period of time. We will talk about safety and how to handle emergencies, create boredom activities, make easy snacks and more. This event will take place on Wednesday, June 8 at the Toledo Public Library, 10 am to 4 pm. Cost is $5 for enrolled 4-H members and $10 for non-4-H members. Register by 4:30 pm June 1.

Babysitting Basics

Those who have completed grades 5-12 will learn skills to care for infants/young children, develop an activity bag, and learn how to handle emergencies, feeding, diapering and more. This event takes place on Thursday, June 9 at the Traer Public Library, 10 am to 4 pm. Cost is $5 for enrolled 4-H members and $10 for non-4-H members. Register by 4:30 pm June 1.

Fishing Camp

Those who have completed grades 3-6 will learn the basics of fishing, laws, types of fish, lures/baits, knot tying and of course, time for fishing. This event will take place on Wednesday, June 15 at Union Grove State Park, Gladbrook, 9 am to 3 pm. FREE but space is limited! We will take registrations until spaces are full!

Junior Camp

We will join Grundy and Marshall County in a camp for those who have completed 4-6th grade on Friday, June 17th at Union Grove State Park, Gladbrook, 9 am to 4 pm. We are Building the Future – so plan on team building activities, building projects, building friendships and more. Cost is $25 for enrolled 4-H members and $30 for non 4-H members. Registration is due June 1.

Drone Discovery Camp

Those going into grades 6-8 will learn drone skills with ISU Extension and Outreach specialist and other local specialists. Students will have the opportunity to present flying skills for parents Thursday. This camp will be held at Grundy Center Middle School and is a three-day camp in which youth must be present all days. June 21 and 22 will be 9 am to 3 pm (lunch provided) and June 23 noon to 6 pm (students will present flying skills for parents. Supper included with parents.) Cost is $30 and registration is due June 17.

Critter Camp

For those who have completed Kindergarten – 3rd grade. Tama County Naturalist and Tama County 4-H team up with stories, games, crafts, snacks, meet a critter and learn about the great outdoors. This is a two- day camp, you choose a morning or afternoon session – June 23 and June 24 (9 am to noon OR 1-4 pm). Cost is $10 and registration is due June 15.

The fees for service will be used to offset direct expenses of the program. Full refunds will be issued if a camp is cancelled due to low registrations or weather. No refund will be given for participants that cancel less than 48 hours in advance or do not show up.

The Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program provides opportunities for youth to develop skills that they can use now and throughout their lives. Iowa 4-H builds upon a century of experience as it fosters positive youth development that is based on the needs and strengths of youth, their families and communities.
