Gladbrook-Reinbeck seeks community input through facilities survey

Work progressing toward fall 2022 bond vote

The Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board is inviting residents to take a community-wide survey to provide input on how the district can best address its facility needs.

At this time, the board is considering a facilities renovation project that would help maximize the opportunities available to students in Gladbrook-Reinbeck schools.

Under consideration are the addition of early childhood classrooms, an elementary gym, elementary commons and collaboration spaces and main office/secure entry improvements at the Junior/Senior High School.

The board is also looking at a possible Jr./Sr. High School gym expansion, HVAC upgrades in both buildings and a new fire sprinkler system.

Through the survey, residents can review the district’s needs, including those related to safety and security, providing collaborative spaces, HVAC systems and school gymnasiums. They can then provide their input on the highest-priority needs and how the district can best move forward. Residents can also review the estimated property tax impact of a potential bond issue.

The survey is anonymous and takes about 10 minutes to complete. It will be open through Wednesday, February 9. To take the survey online, visit: http://gladbrookreinbecksurvey.org.

The School Board will use information gathered from community members to determine recommendations and prioritize solutions.

Once information is gathered and community priorities are identified in the coming weeks, the board hopes to develop more specific plans that would be presented to the community for additional feedback later in the year with potential for a bond vote that could occur at the next available special school election date on Sept. 13.

In late 2021 Gladbrook-Reinbeck contracted Peters Construction Corporation of Waterloo to work as the construction manager on the project as well as the Donovan Group public relations firm to provide communications services.

“As a board, we share in our school district’s mission to provide excellent learning environments that best prepare our students for the years ahead,” G-R School Board President Donovan Devore said. “By moving forward on solutions now, we can address the facility needs in our buildings and ensure we protect the future of our schools. We invite our community members to take our survey to provide their input on how we can best address these needs and move forward in a thoughtful and effective way.”
