What motivated you to run for this office or to run for reelection?
I have been on the city council since 2012 and when Keith Sash announced he was not running for another term I decided it was my chance to help Gladbrook continue to move forward in the coming years. I am familiar with city government and with that experience I feel confident that I can do a respectable job.
I grew up in Lincoln, graduated from Gladbrook High School, and have lived in Gladbrook for about 40 years. It is a wonderful place to live and has been a tremendous asset in raising my son. When Andrew was young, I was involved with Scouts, 4-H, and his school and church activities. After he was a little older, I got involved with the Gladbrook Legion Auxiliary, local preschool and daycare, Lincoln Amvet Auxiliary, Corn Carnival Corporation, Theater/Matchstick Marvels Board, GHS Alumni Association, City Council, Tama County Community Foundation, and Region 6 Resource Partners.
The people in this town are the most caring and supportive group I know. Gladbrook and the local area are in my blood and my wish for the city is to continue to prosper while retaining the kindness and compassion that my family has experienced here.
What challenges do you see small, rural communities like yours facing today as compared to larger cities and suburbs? What do you plan to do to help meet those challenges as mayor?
In our small community we don’t see the crime, undesirable neighborhoods, homelessness, and corruption that large cities deal with. We do however, as with all cities no matter their size, work with a budget that can be challenging. The budget is always a major factor in decisions. Past mayors and councils have done an excellent job keeping Gladbrook thriving. I will continue to collaborate with the council to keep that practice.
Why should people vote for you on November 2, 2021?
I believe I am a qualified candidate for the next mayor of Gladbrook. I will make myself available to visit with all residents of Gladbrook; I will listen to all the concerns or problems people may have; and always be open to innovative ideas. I will use my leadership skills in new projects that come our way and in daily city management. The city’s best interest will always be my intention and I will always do my best for the city. I ask for your vote in the upcoming election and appreciate your support.
