Grundy vaccine rollout moving through 1B

Officials with Grundy County Public Health (GCPH) have issued recent updates and reminders regarding vaccine rollout for residents in Grundy County.

All individuals qualifying within the Phase 1B priority populations are encouraged to contact one of three local pharmacies to be placed on a waiting list for vaccine appointments.

Phase 1B priority populations include all individuals age 65 or over and those younger than 65 with underlying health conditions.

According to GCPH, one of the most wide spread underlying health conditions present in adults is obesity. Those with a body mass index of 25 or higher would qualify as having an underlying health condition and would fall within the Phase 1B priority population eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.

GCPH officials indicated vaccines are still in short supply, however all Grundy County first responders, teachers and child care workers have had the opportunity to receive a vaccine.

Gov. Reynolds announced Wednesday the state’s plan to open up vaccine eligibility to every adult in the state of Iowa by April 5.

Reynolds said the move comes as vaccines are expected to become more available to the state over the next two weeks.

The state of Iowa recently surpassed 1 million doses of COVID-19 administered.

Residents in Grundy County are asked to contact local pharmacies to schedule vaccine appointments or to be placed on a waiting list. Those pharmacies include Reinbeck Pharmacy, 319-788-7445; Manly Drugstore in Grundy Center, 319-824-5446 or NuCara Pharmacy in Conrad, 641-366-2441.
